painting of chickens in field

New paths

Welcome to my new website!

I’ve had the idea to design a new website, rattling around my head for a while. For years, I had a website which acted primarily as a portfolio site, showcasing my latest paintings and which galleries those were being sold in, but it felt time for a change and to create a gallery which acted also as a shop.

The past couple of years has been a steady and slow growth from focusing on large wildlife paintings to smaller works of different subjects, pushing the boundaries in my style and approach to painting. I suppose this is to be expected, I have been working in one direction for over a decade now, and the need to grow creatively has been calling for a few years.

I am in a season of life with kids and family demands, where the time-fragmentation is real… the ability to get to paint for long stretches of time where I can work on 10 large paintings at once seems very challenging these days. With the smaller paintings, I can start and often complete a painting in one session. This has been amazing for my psychological health… to be able to complete a creative task from start to finish and see progress.

I am still painting the wildlife, however, I have backed off a little to try to find some creative balance and not burn out this past year. I still love that subject and I have plans for some new bright, bold animals in the new year (stay tuned ;).

Thank you for following along on my journey here! I would also love to hear any feedback as to what you’d like me to write about here, such as studio musings? Product reviews? Techniques?

Yours in art,

Jennifer
